Alumni

The alumni group is comprised of 34 former fellows of the program “Robert Bosch Cultural Managers in Central and Eastern Europe". For UP TO three years the program has enabled the former fellows to hold leadership positions at cultural and educational institutions in Bulgaria, Estonia, Kosovo, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Poland, the Republic of Moldova, Romania, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Ukraine or Hungary. The alumni group was founded in October 2005 during the MitOst-Festival in Wroclaw. The alumni of the program “Robert Bosch Cultural Managers in the Arab World” have been a part of the alumni group since spring 2009 and bring their experiences in cultural management gained at Goethe-Institut’s dialog points (in Morocco, Egypt and Lebano) within the network.

The goals of the alumni work are:

  • To facilitate contact between alumni
  • To facilitate contact with current cultural managers, the Robert Bosch Stiftung and other alumni groups
  • Networking with German cultural institutions, foundations and key players of the international cultural exchange and management
  • Further education
  • Participation in European networks in the area of culture

The group accomplishes these goals primarily through two annual meetings:

The Summer Meeting

The alumni group spends a weekend together “in the countryside” or in a city where an alumnus or alumna works. They met in this manner in Munich and Freising in June of 2008. The content of the focus was "contemporary art". They visited important art institutions in Munich and held discussions with trustees, gallery owners and artists. At the beginning of July 2009 they travelled to Brussels in order to get involved with discussions, networking and key players in European cultural policy. They met representatives of the European Commission, the European Parliament, and civil societal organizations and networks. They also visited important cultural institutions such as the Flagey Cultural Center.

The Winter Meeting

At the beginning of January the alumni group regularly organizes a one-day seminar on a relevant cultural policy topic and invites instructors who work in the areas of cultural management, policy or promotion.

In January 2008 they considered the topic “European Cultural Projects – the cultural project of Europe". Five instructors shared their experiences in the area of European cultural management with the group. In January 2009 the seminar focused on “Private Cultural Promotion and Corporate Social Responsibility – Opportunities and Limitations”.
The last Winter Meeting took place once again in Berlin on January 10-11, 2010. It dealt with aspects of cultural work in Germany at the national level.
