A project initiated by Anne-Kathrin Topp and further developed by Barbara Anna Bernsmeier

Host institution: Agency for cultural initiatives of the Volgograd Region

2013-2015, Volgograd, Volzhsky, Kamyshin, Uryupinsk

Since March 2013, the project „Vkratze!“ (russian for: shortly) annually takes place in the towns of Volgograd and Volzhsky. In 2013 the focus of the festival was on animation, in 2014 on experimental films and in 2015 on the interaction of literature and film. In 2014 the International Short Film Festival Oberhausen, the AG Kurzfilm from Dresden and the International Video Festival Kansk contributed to the festival program. The video artist and animator Philipp Artus presented his short film „Snail Trail“ and brought to Volgograd a video installation and exhibition dealing with this film. For three days he worked together with young animators on their experimental short films, that were presented to the audience with improvised live music.

In 2015 several series of poetry films were presented, for example two series of the ZEBRA Poetry Film Festival Berlin, that were presented by its curator Thomas Zandegiacomo. The filmmaker Merlin Flügel from Offenbach offered the workshop „Plot Machine – playfully developing ideas for short films“. Another important part of the project „Vkratze!“ is the nationwide contest for short films, that was announced in six federal districts of Russia. A jury consisting of guests of the festival as well as Volgograd film scholars annually chose the winners in three categories. After finishing the short film festival the organisors presented a Best-Of of the festival in the regional towns of Kamyshin and Uryupinsk.
