Scene: Moldova

Eight days of contemporary theater, dance, film, photography, and music from the Republic of Moldova in the Societaetstheater Dresden

A project by Nora Dorogan

Host organizations: Societaetstheater Dresden and K3, Hamburg

May 2008, Societaetstheater and Kino Thalia, Dresden (Germany)

With this project, the Republic of Moldova presented a theater festival in another European country for the first time. Selections for the festival "Scene: Moldova" included works by mostly young artists representative of the Moldavian Republic whose work dealt with their country's problems and its relationship to the rest of Europe. "The Seventh Coffee House," for example, investigated the problem of trafficking women. The Mobile European Trailer Theater from Chişinău celebrated the premiere of the piece "Sugar-free" during this festival.

In addition to theatrical performances, the festival included panel discussions, two contemporary music concerts, a documentary film evening with Igor Cobileanski, the most popular documentary filmmaker in the country, and an appearance of the ensemble "Voices."
