INVENT|TURA - Mapping Territories and Histories

A project by Sibylla Hausmann and Karin Rolle

Host organizations: Mostar Youth Theater and Protok - Center for Visual Communication

April to June 2010: Production of new works and texts, panel discussion "Art as Archive", Banja Luka, exhibition and presentation of project results, Banja Luka and Mostar (Bosnia and Herzegovina)

This project examines the mechanisms of writing history in Bosnia and Herzegovina by the means of contemporary visual arts and literature. It consisted of the production of new artworks and texts, theoretical reflection on the issues in the form of a panel, and the presentation of the results in exhibitions and readings.

On one hand, this interdisciplinary project records and narrates complex historical layers in Bosnia and Herzegovina. On the other hand, INVENT|TURA critically examines the mechanisms of writing history and plumbs the depths of the dialectical tension of "forgetting" and "constructing" specific narratives.

INVENT|TURA develops its ideas along the interface of research and art production. The project draws on the assumption that actively attaining knowledge about Bosnia and Herzegovina’s complex past is the only way to imagine its societal present and future.
