Silke Wittig

Cultural Manager at the Center for Balkan Cooperation in Tetovo, Macedonia, 2010-2012

Silke Wittig worked as a program manager of the cultural department at the Center for Balkan Cooperation LOJA from 2010 to 2012. By creating and implementing international projects and collaborations such as exhibitions, workshops, and festivals, she fostered the institution’s structural development. In order to support and promote the region’s youth scene, she created a platform for local artists and cultural producers. For the purpose of enabling and extending sustainable cultural work, the establishment of regional and international cooperation partners and donors played a major role in her activities.

Silke Wittig studied fine arts with a focus on photography and new media in Hamburg, Paris, and Berlin. As a tutor at the University of Arts in Berlin, she gained her first experiences in project work by supporting students in the implementation of artistic projects and exhibitions. After her studies, she worked for two years at the art association Neuer Berliner Kunstverein n.b.k. where she became acquainted with the institutional perspective of the art and culture scene in Berlin. During this time, she took a strong interest in places where the art scene is less established, but politically and socially motivated. Since the beginning of her two years in Tetovo, a place marked by political and ethnic tensions, Silke Wittig advocated stimulating, inspiring, and supporting the young art scene and strengthening social discourse and interest in culture by implementing a wide range of projects in the fields of contemporary art and film.

From August 2012 to March 2013, Silke Wittig was coordinator of the video art collection of Neuer Berliner Kunstverein n.b.k.

Since April 2013 she is Head of Communication and Public Program at the Neuer Berliner Kunstverein n.b.k., Berlin.
