Bettina Lehmann

Cultural Manager at the City Galleries Osijek, Croatia, 2008-2010

From August 2008 to July 2010 Bettina Lehmann worked as a Robert Bosch Cultural Manager and a curator at the City Galleries Osijek, an institution focusing on visual arts. She was responsible in charge for the international cultural program and supported the institution’s activities in general.

In addition to the organization of international contemporary art exhibitions, film screenings and concerts in the gallery rooms, Bettina Lehmann initiated two festivals in and outside of Osijek. Reacting to the exclusiveness of institutionalized cultural spaces, she planned and realized various events in the city’s public spaces. She made efforts to introduce contamporary art, which sometimes seems to be a hermetically sealed genre, to a broader audience and to awaken a greater interest in it.

Background

Bettina Lehmann studied art history, Polish studies and comparatistics at the universities of Leipzig, Krakov and Warsaw. Still being a student, she already had a particular interest in contemporary art and interdisciplinary approaches. She completed several internships at galleries and art rooms in Germany, Poland and Ukraine that focused on international contemporary art.

In 2006 she was co-founder of the Leipzig artists’ residence *blumen*, which initially started out as a student project, being an established and professionally working institution in the city of Leipzig by now. Bettina Lehmann managed the project until graduating from university in 2008. Her experiences gained during this time and her distinct interest in current artistic approaches from different countries were useful benefits when she started working as a curator and cultural manager for the City Galleries Osijek in Croatia, being responsible for its international arts and cultural program.

In summer 2010 Bettina Lehmann started working as a freelance cultural manager and art director for “Little Global Cities. Osijek”, a project initiated by the Berlin company inter:est Kultur- und Bildungsprojekte GmbH.

From October to December 2010, Bettina Lehmann worked as programm and print coordinator at the 11th Tbilisi International Film Festival, National Film Center PROMETHEUS in Tbilisi, Georgia.

From January to November 2011 she was a fellow for art coordination at Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart, Germany.

Current

Since December 2011 she is cultural manager at the Kunsthaus Dresden. Together with Antje Kohlrusch she is alumni representative of the program "Robert Bosch Cultural Managers in Central- and Eastern Europe".
