Sophie Werner
Sophie Werner worked as a Robert Bosch Cultural Manager at the Sibiu German Cultural Center from August 2008 to July 2010 being head of the cultural program department. Within the institution and its threefold profile (cultural work, language courses, library) she was in charge of planning and realizing the annual cultural program and the further development of the whole center. Alongside with that, she trained her Romanian successor to manage the center’s cultural program department. Sophie Werner initiated and organized projects aimed at building bridges between Romania and Germany. During her 2-year-work at the center emphases were laid on representing and promoting arts and culture, on lowering inhibitions against contemporary art, on awakening an interest in intercultural exchange and on promoting the co-operation of cultural actors.

Sophie Werner studied International Cultural Management at the ISW Business School in Freiburg from 2003 to 2007, followed by a study in European cultural history, art history and English and French literature at the universities of Augsburg and Pisa. Together with fellow students she devised and organized the Business and Culture Forum in Freiburg. Participating in the start-up competition „5-Euro-Business“, hosted by Augsburg University, she won the 1st prize. Before starting to study she participated in a musical tour through the USA and Europe that was part of the international youth education program „Up with People“. During this time, from 1999 to 2000, she also realized social projects on both continents. Aside of studying, she gained diverse experience doing culture-related project-based work at the Hypo Art Hall (Kunsthalle der Hypo-Kulturstiftung), the Rheinsberg Music Academy, the EXPO 2000 in Hanover and at the Tollwood Cultural Festival in Munich. After graduation from university she worked at the Siemens Art Program’s PR office in Munich from 2007 to 2008.
Current
Since summer 2010 Sophie Werner is a cultural manager for „Eigenbetrieb Bildung und Kultur der Stadt Rüsselsheim“ in the culture and theater section. She is responsible-in-charge for projects in the field of performing arts, fine arts, music, political education and for the institution’s granting and awarding processes. She will support the city of Rüsselsheim in further developing its profile as a city of culture, in raising funds, in marketing and realizing PR activities, thus contributing to open up new perspectives for culture.
