Transitraum Deutsch

Literature and Culture in a transnational age

A project by Jens Adam and Hans-Joachim Hahn

Host organizations: Edith-Stein-Haus and Gerhart-Hauptmann-Haus

October 2005, The German Institute at the University of Wrocław (Poland)

Researchers from across Europe and North America came together for a conference focussing on the contribution of immigrants and their descendants to German-speaking countries. The central question in this context was the extent to which the imagination of a homogenous national culture is called into question and altered by the creative output of authors and filmmakers from "immigrant backgrounds."

The contributions were published as a conference transcript under the name "Transitraum Deutsch. Literatur und Kultur im transnationalen Zeitalter." ATUT- and Neisse Verlag 2007, edited by Jens Adam, Hans-Joachim Hahn, Lucjan Puchalski, and Irena Swiatlowska.

The conference was complemented by a cultural program which took place at various sites throughout Wrocław. Aside from film nights and writing and translation workshops there were two literary evenings with authors José F.A. Oliver, Catalin Dorian Florescu, and Saša Stanišić.
